How do I keep colors from running when washing my towels?

Before we can get to this we need to talk about the best way to wash your towel. First it should be in warm water with mild soap. You always want to wash your dark colors separately. You should avoid using fabric softener because it will make towels less absorbent. You should actually shake the towel when it's wet and when it's dry so that it fluffs up the loops in the towel.

You should always wash new towels before you use them so that it removes excess dye and finishing solvents.

Now on to the secret to keeping your colors from running when you wash them for the first few times. All of your heavily colored towels will give off the excess dye that they contain during the first several washings. If you add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of vinegar to your colored towels when laundering them for the first time then that will help set the color. I still caution that you wash them separetly just to make sure that you don't end up with pink socks.
